Oh, family and cheer and those wahwah holiday songs, they can make us crazy! But it’s possible, very possible, to let go and enjoy their sweetness, by remembering to be present first from the heart, so we can open our minds to love. Why not live a sweeter story this year? Here are three steps to help!
- Put your hand on your heart and take three deep breaths when you feel anxious or judgmental or restless. It helps!
- When you need a break, take a break. Wash your face in the bathroom, take a quick walk outside, pop into your room and freshen up.
- Keep off your phone or mobile device during the meal or party, so you can really be present with people. Distracting yourself while you’re hanging out with people means you won’t connect, and if you don’t connect, you’ll be more likely to get stuck in your own head and your assumptions about everyone. That means less fun all around.
So let your great uncle nap and ramble, let the kids bubble, heck, just let everyone be who they are, because honestly, that’s the best any of us can do! Well, that’s not entirely true — we can also simply be together, the greatest gift of the holidays.
